My sophomore year is where it gets complicated. Again, after I moved in to my new dorm, I went to the FA office to make sure everything was squared away with FSA (Federal Student Aid) and was told, again, that they needed my tax return statement. However, this time they needed it for 2016. Just like 2015, I did not file for tax returns, as I did not work and had no income. This time, they did not accept that answer, and wanted proof of my father's tax returns, as he is who i lived with at the time. The only problem: they told me this one week before the deadline. I contacted FAFSA to see if the possibly has these tax return statements on record, and they did. Upon my request, they forwarded the records to the FA office, but they informed me that they needed the official record from the IRS directly in a sealed envelope. My dad orders it from the IRS but the shipment time is 10-14 days, which is passed the deadline. I explained this to them and asked why they had waited so long to tell me about this (for reference, this was in November, near the end of the semester and months after my first visit).
